Danger Training exercise. # Why We Created This Information Architecture ## Introduction In designing our information architecture, we explored various approaches to effectively showcase our three products. Each approach had its merits and considerations. In this document, we'll outline three approaches we considered: utilizing a single sidebar, employing the navbar, and utilizing a catalog to display all three products. We'll then delve into why we ultimately selected the navbar to showcase all three products. ## Approaches ### 1. Single Sidebar ![Single sidebar](/assets/single-sidebar-image.57a9d3bba0be104f8723f6853f892d8492a52b6b646f2ff6b065988d9a4fdf3e.43a731ee.png) One approach we considered was using a single sidebar to display all three products. This method would involve having a sidebar menu where users could navigate between the different products with ease. Each product would have its section within the sidebar, allowing users to quickly access the desired product. ### 2. Navbar ![Navbar](/assets/navbar.d6df9fd39f4979dd62ab22c808c31f3c6c31a3468d047fc57970df13fd1e9de2.43a731ee.png) Another approach was to utilize the navbar to showcase all three products. In this approach, the navbar would prominently feature links to each product, ensuring they are easily accessible from any page within the website. This method prioritizes visibility and accessibility, as the navbar is typically one of the first elements users interact with when visiting a website. ### 3. Catalog ![Catalog](/assets/catalog-view-01.14e6fdf72b0f9de060bc6bf82920aa125328c2005fd47b4e94d167a6e7b01c5c.43a731ee.png) ![Catalog](/assets/catalog-view-02.46168c5d256c3461dbb174c44d69c4511e300937ee8c46e75e49ed1ecfd8afb8.43a731ee.png) Lastly, we considered using a catalog-style layout to display all three products. This approach would involve presenting the products in a grid or list format, allowing users to browse through them visually. ## Conclusion After careful consideration, we chose to utilize the navbar to showcase all three products. Several factors influenced this decision: 1. **Visibility**: The navbar offers high visibility as it is typically located at the top of the webpage, ensuring that users can easily locate and access all three products regardless of their location within the site. 2. **Consistency**: By featuring all products in the navbar, we maintain consistency across the website, providing users with a uniform navigation experience. This consistency enhances usability and reduces cognitive load for users. 3. **Space Efficiency**: Unlike a sidebar or catalog layout, which may occupy a significant portion of the screen, the navbar utilizes minimal space, maximizing the available real estate for content and other essential elements. 4. **Mobile-Friendliness**: The navbar translates well to mobile devices, where space is limited. By featuring all products in the navbar, we ensure a seamless user experience across different screen sizes. In conclusion, the decision to use the navbar to showcase all three products was driven by its superior visibility, consistency, space efficiency, and mobile-friendliness. This approach aligns with our goal of providing users with a user-friendly and intuitive navigation experience.
